The Assistant Learning Specialist position is a two-year Internship intended to provide a practical, hands-on experience in the area of Learning Services Support for student-athletes while pursuing a graduate degree at University of Florida. This position will train in preparation for a full-time learning specialist position at the collegiate level. The intern will: work with student-athletes with learning disabilities and ADD/ADHD; orient new student-athletes to the Disability Resource Center’s programs; assist in screening evaluations and referrals for assessment of learning disabilities; offer learning strategies; and refer students to appropriate campus resources. The intern will provide professional level support and programs to student-athletes in accordance with the regulation of UF, the SEC, the NCAA, Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Bachelor’s degree in a related field of expertise such as but not limited to education, sport management, psychology, or counseling is required with a desire to become a full-time Learning Specialist. Experience working in an intercollegiate athletic academic office or participation in college athletics as a student-athlete is preferred. Must maintain a high level of confidentiality. The ability to engage effectively with others of diverse cultures or backgrounds is essential. The ability to work a non-standard work schedule which may include evenings, weekends and holidays is also required.
