This position exists to enforce the Minnesota Enclosed Sports Arena Rules, the Minnesota Clean Indoor Air Act, and the Radon Licensing Act, including performing inspections, conducting enforcement, providing compliance assistance, researching topics, and educating regulated parties. In addition, this position conducts research, education and outreach on indoor air quality, to assess exposure and mitigate health effects from exposure to hazards.
Inspection, license review, enforcement, outreach and research related to the Indoor Air Unit's regulations (arenas, smoking, radon).
Indoor air quality research, policy and best practice development.
Public indoor environmental health outreach activities and conduct special projects as assigned by supervisor.
Contribute to continuous quality improvement.
Masters in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, a physical or biological science, or a related field AND 2 years of professional experience as a safety, health, or compliance officer for a scientific, environmental, regulatory health or safety enforcement program.
Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, a physical or biological science, or a related field AND 3 years of professional experience as a safety, health, or compliance officer for a scientific, environmental, regulatory health or safety enforcement program.
A certificate in Industrial Hygiene will substitute for one year of professional experience.
Must be able to travel statewide including some evenings and weekends.
Knowledge of the health risks, assessment and mitigation of indoor air pollutants, including environmental tobacco smoke, carbon monoxide, radon, mold, chemicals, and biological pollutants.
Knowledge of local, state and federal public health programs and planning activities conducted by other agencies, to evaluate and interpret impact and to incorporate them into assigned planning activities and technical assistance.
Effective interpersonal skills that apply to consultative processes and group dynamics, including conflict management, negotiation and team process.
Project management skills necessary for accomplishing work individually and in teams.
Communication skills, including writing, training development and public speaking.
Software including Microsoft products and graphic design.
This position requires successful completion of the following:
Must successfully pass a background check.
Must possess a valid Class D driver's license.
