Stony Brook University Hospital (an entity of Stony Brook Medicine), based in Stony Brook, New York has retained Witt/Kieffer to assist in the recruitment of candidates for the Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO). The position is an extraordinary opportunity for a strategic, operationally competent human resources executive to make a significant mark within a healthcare system.
Stony Brook Medicine comprises Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine, Stony Brook School of Health Technology and Management, Stony Brook School of Medicine, Stony Brook School of Nursing and the Stony Brook School of Social Welfare, as well as Outpatient Care sites. Stony Brook University Hospital is Long Island’s premier academic medical center. The hospital serves as the region’s only tertiary care center and Level I Trauma Center. Administratively, Stony Brook Medicine is led by a Senior Vice President for Health Sciences, who reports to the President of the University. Reporting to the new CEO of Stony Brook University Hospital Ernest J. Baptiste, the CHRO is responsible for planning, implementing and directing a comprehensive HR strategy for Stony Brook University Hospital, a complex and highly-unionized environment. The new strategy will include a comprehensive review of Stony Brook University Hospital’s HR practices and synergies. The central goal of the new CHRO’s efforts is to create and implement a distinctive and innovative HR brand which encompasses significant gains in recruitment, retention, business partnership, performance management and employee satisfaction. The new CHRO will hold primary responsibility for the development of HR programs and objectives that will maximize Stony Brook’s investment in employees and align with the organization’s key clinical, operational, financial and quality goals. He/she will build, develop and maintain a highly skilled HR team to support organizational planning, recruitment and retention, leadership development, succession planning, employee and labor relations and communications, compensation, benefits, HR information systems and policy administration.
The successful candidate will be a transparent and collaborative leader comfortable leading and supporting change in a complex environment. The CHRO will have a minimum of 10 years of overall human resources experience, with at least 7 years of current experience in senior management in a human resources leadership role in a healthcare, life sciences or another highly specialized complex service-oriented industry.
